These pictures were taken in March, 2009. It's Kharapani, where people used to enjoy the natural hot spring, or go for a picnic on holidays. It is supposed that the most of the casualties were the people enjoying their time in this place, or the inhabitants near by.
The pictures down below (after the disaster) are from different sources, i tried to find out the snaps from the same place( before & after), but couldn't distinguish as the damage has been really severe.
Feel sorry for those affected and who have lost their lives in this natural disaster.

OMG! Kharapani Hot Spings and village all gone? I didn't know that. I'm planning to come to Pokhara next month to visit some hot springs and one of my friend recommended to visit Kharapani..... I wonder other hot springs like Tato Pani also damaged by the flood. Do you have any info?
ReplyDeleteMs. Miho, that was a tragic disaster.Almost everything was swept away ! Tatopani, do you mean the one across Ghorepani ? that's still fine !!! Have a nice travel ! !
DeleteThank you Keon! After posting the comment above, I searched and saw many pictures of the flood. They remind me of our 311 earthquake/tsunami. I feel sorry for the victims and affected people. Do you know any NGO/NPOs in Pokhara supporting flood affected people?
ReplyDeleteBTW I am planning to visit two Tato Pani, one is located north of Ghorepani/Poon Hill - I think the one you mentioned, ant the other is west of Beni along the Myagdi Khola, if it's accessible for me. Is there hot spring at Rato Pani, too?
Sorry for late response Ms. Miho, was a bit busy these days. Yeah, 311 was much more dreadful. These are unavoidable Natural disasters, but in fact, better counter measures would have lessened the casualties in both cases.
DeleteI am not sure if any NPO?NGO's are still working or not . But If you are interested in supporting the flood affected people. Private company worked well at that time.
Radio Annapurna FM Company ( phone :061-532891 , http://www.radioannapurna.com.np )
Or , you may contact or visit the Sardikhola Village Committee ( Kharapani) directly (phone no. unknown).
As about Rato pain , I am not sure , but think it's a Brahman village. And yes, there is a hot spring. I checked it out on a map.
Ms. Miho, I wonder if you are already on your trip. Anyway, Have a wonderful trip to Nepal. I think it's a bit earlier for Rhododendron blooming, but wish it Greets you well .
ReplyDeleteHello Keon,
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I had started before reading your reply. Came back to Japan last week and been busy.
I could visit Raropani Tatopani, and Singa Tatopani as planned, and I had wonderful time through my stay in Nepal. I can never forget Nilgiri I saw from Tatopani and star-ful sky in the night.
Moreover, all people I met were so nice in spite of mistreatment of Nepali people by Japanese recently. I mean Gobinda-san was imprisoned so long time for false accusation and a Nepali restaurant owner was killed last year. I'm so ashamed those incidents as a Japanese.
Hello Miho,
DeleteGood to hear from you. And very happy that you enjoyed your stay in Nepal.
Nepalese people were better earlier, due to the long time political instability, the real nepalese hospitality is fading day by day. Still good, let's pray it won't worsen by time.
As about the incidents in which nepalese residing in japan were dragged into a crime or murdered, they were really disappointing and rare cases. But, this tend to happen in every country and Japanese wholly cannot be blamed. There are lot more good people.
Keep in touch Miho.
